6m repeaters are always there, so for standard calls, use them please.
I have a VX5R connected to a 5/8 always scanning. Call on 52.050 SSB on vertical and I'll find you.

Re: 6 metre radio choice
I find a VX-5R Yaesu hand-held scanning all 6m repeaters and 50.110,antenna 5/8, very useful.
One thing, you need a Noise Quieting mute, not a Carrier sensing type.
Any radio with CAT control. will do.

Re: Antenna rotators control
Brainstorm ======== Stepper motors are the go.... All the computer has to do is move the required number of steps, once calibration is done. So, the computer needs no feedback on position. Calibrate by pointing to the moon or sun or a known bearing, via compass and inclinometer. The computer only ne...

Hi guys,
Much is posted here on the RF side of things.
How do you point your dish accurately?
Does your rotator system track the moon?

Re: Dish AZ/EL rotators, pointing accuracy
Hi all, Full marks to John VK5DJ for his rotator board/micro design as his protocol does 0.01 deg. accuracy. His project is not Open Source. So, only he can adapt his code for the actual hardware you have. Have a look at these Chinese gearboxes: http://www.unixservice.com.au/hamradio/rotators/Wangye...

Re: Dish AZ/EL rotators
This code looks good, BUT, The Yaesu AZ/EL rotator IS the problem: 1) Not big enough for a 5m dish. 2) Not accurate enough. the GS-232 standard is 0.1 deg accuracy. We need to meet this. 4 deg. is SLOPPY. 3) The AtoD for AZ or EL is only 1024 positions, so, at best 0.3 deg accuracy. Actually, for El...

Hi guys,
I've found some promising code:

I've signed up with the site and will be on to it. The Arduino is an ATMEL MegaXXX on a board (Jaycar)

Re: Winter VHF/UHF Field Day 18/19th June
Sleep, we ALL need sleep, so, how about 11pm to 5am curfew. I'm 60 and NOT getting any younger. (full stop) It was MIGHTY cold at Katoomba. FM activity is almost GONE. Reason, once a contact is made on SSB, no further points can be made by doing FM. I suggest, if the transceiver at either end is ONL...

Re: Raspberry Pi on sale at last
I'm Alan, a Linux buff from the Minix days. My Raspberry Pi, bought for software development, is very disappointing. Three Linux versions tried: Debian 6 GUI kills the ethernet!!! Fedora No-longer in the Pi website, runs the best Arch GUI kills the ethernet, very hard to install, past command line. ...

Polar mount to track the moon This is very limiting. What about ham satellites? They go everywhere. I want to use software such as HRD or SatPC32 in GS232 mode and track whatever in AZ/EL. Absolute encoders : I forgot to mention, 4096 steps/rev or better than 0.1 degree. Obviously you guys want me ...

Re: Stepper motors to drive a rotator
With decent rotators for 5m dishes, starting at $3000, we need a supply of gearboxes and motors AND motor controllers, computer boards, to go ALL the way. Go to eBay, buy this, this and this. Go to website, get software X and build. So far I have sources for: Gearbox 50:1 35mm thru shaft (from China...
