Re: Grid pack versus yagi
Bandwidth, bandwidth, bandwidth Long yagis are by their nature narrow bandwidth, so home brewing one is thwart with danger. Tolerances less than 1mm, hard. I use a 12 el phased array. From here, Emu Plains, I hear the Dural beacon quite well and by rotating it, work the Dural or Chatswood repeaters...

Re: "Pepper Box" antenna?
Antenna gain and beam-width ARE connected. (full stop)
If an antenna has 180 deg beamwidth, both up and down, it's gain is only 3db or so.

Re: WSPR on 432MHz
When can we get 432 and 1296 into WSPR sauce code? TS-2000 and IC-910H and Ic-9100 transceivers all have these bands. BTW: With the latest (downloaded today, SVN) no "configure" is there for Linux, so I copied one from Rev 4857 and it worked. Mods as usual to use f2py3 on my Fedora 21 box...

Where's the home brew spirit? 30pf is, how many square inches of 1/16" PCB? Building damp course aluminium strip is handy stuff, 30cm x 10m roll from Bunno's. Much more robust than kitchen al-foil. 200mm piece of 40mm PVC pipe, foil inside to 1/2 way down. held out with sponge. (the hot end) S...

Re: WSPR stops RX'ing after TX.
Running WSPR on a PC chewing 100W will cost you $300 per year in electricity. That's why I'm so passionate about, the Raspberry Pi or equivalent. Better still, a Banana Pi with a SATA disk. Power is now under 10W. I did replace my 24x7 PC motherboard with an ASRock Q1900-ITX to get down to about 20...

Re: Sydney 70cm repeaters at GPT
Our BMARC clubhouse, has internet, is a 2m APRS possibility. Though, not so good on 70cm as we are in a slight dip. The (at the moment) top antenna is a 6m 1/2 wave connected into an RTL2832 USB TV stick on the club Banana Pi http://club.bmarc.org (the Banana Pi is a dual core Raspberry Pi clone wit...

Back to the topic, Summer Field Day 2015 -10/11 Jan 2015 I operated out of the BMARC club-house,Glenblook. On the roof 8m up, we have a 2 & 70cm combined 4+5 el beam and a 6m 4el beam and rotator. Well under the tree tops. Equipment: FT897D. We had a 6m opening at 0320 UTC, worked VK7DD.Dave Hi...

WSJT 10 on Linux
Dec 2014 WSJT Ver 10 runs on Linux ARM boards such as Banana Pi, ODROID, CubieTruck. http://www.qslnet.de/member/dg0opk/Cubieboard2_March2014.html Linux issues: WSJT 10 uses Python 3 so you may need to change the Makefile from "f2py" to "f2py3" to build it. I generally edit &quo...

Now, 2015, SvxLink looks like a good choice . https://github.com/sm0svx/svxlink Has anybody any real experience? I've downloaded and compiled it up on two Banana Pi with SATA disks. Repeaters, Duplexer, BP/BR cavity construction
Duplexers, discussion of techniques for 2m 600KHz offset where commercial cavity systems are rare. Who are our experts in this field? 90% of our 2m repeaters are more than 30 years old now, who maintains the cavity systems? Do we have national or state repeater maintenance and DR teams? Noting, the...

WSPR on Linux (any flavour) PC, 32 and 64 bit, ARM such as Raspberry PI.
All working as at SVN release 4889. No more "crashes after a couple of days".
A memory leak was found and fixed.
Thanks Joe K1JT.

Fall 2014, Both WSPR and WSJT now use Python 3 and the Imaging Library "pillow".
Ver 2.6.1 of pillow, crashes when a waterfall is drawn.
Downgrade: pip3 install -I pillow==2.5.3

Re: Using WSJT 9 in echo mode
WSJT 10 is available now. I've compiled it for Fedora 20 x86_64. But, we have a BUG. Fedora 20 Desktop x86_64 won't use your .asoundrc file. But, Fedora 18 upgraded to 20 with "fedup" does process "~/.asoundrc". Go figure. ".asoundrc" is needed to "fix" the a...

WSJT-X Ver 1.3 r3777 on Linux only looks for ttyUSB0 , ignores pull-down list in Configuration . Change "getfile.cpp" from line 177 to look like this. Now ttyS0 (motherboard COM1 port) is supported. if(*nopen==0) { fd=open("/dev/ttyUSB0",O_RDWR | O_NONBLOCK); if(fd<0) { fd=open(...
