Re: Solar powered shacks

I use the Green cap on 12V solar regulators (for which the reply was intended). On my SolarRiver Grid Tie Inverter I fitted red ones (mains and panel sides) as these are 630V rated along with a toroid with turns as the device did produce some noise. Also the type of ferrite used makes a big differen...

Re: Solar powered shacks

Toroids will not do much unless multiple turns are used. What you need is bypass capacitors on all inputs and outputs and likely locations where interference may be produced. I find greencaps of 0.001 uF and 0.1 uF usually work quite well for HF and VHF. The noise will also depend on the loading con...

What you need is a number of bypass capacitors fitted directly onto the regulator PCB. I find green caps of 0.001 uF and 0.1 uF on all inputs and outputs usually do the job.

VK6RPH Beacon

Hi All A new GPS locked VHF Group VK6RPH Beacon built by VK6RK is now operating on 6M, 2M, 70cm and 23cm under test At Wireless Hill. It uses the ZL2BKC multi mode controller with a separate PA for each band and is currently connected to a modified CB Ringo vertical on 6M and a triband vertical for ...

Hi Kevin

According to technical service supplement dated 2002-2, from what I can see the TS 2000 with a serial no 30600203 or greater use PA Board X45-360-XX(A/2) with 2SC1972 transistors for 2M.

Re: Solar powered shacks

Hi I have been using solar systems for some time. The current solar system consists of a bank of solar panels which is connected to two battery banks separated by some distance but interconnected by heavy cables. The main bank being in the shed and a smaller sized one in the shack. I use two identic...

Re: Don't trust all SMA - SO239 adapters

I found a similar problem with brand new back to back N Type M to M connector of a rather reputable brand commonly used in commercial systems. This was on the mating side and not on the termination side of the connector. There was an almost invisible hair thick piece of metal which would intermitten...

If you want to operate maritime you need the ship owners/operator permission, the captains permission and your gear is likely to be also needed to checked by one of the ships officers. Your will also need an amateur licence operate under that is valid for the country the ship is registered under. Am...

Hi Ron I presume you have a programming lead. To make it work you most likely will need to use different USB driver to that of the later Windows version. Download the appropriate programming software for the radio. This defaults to Chinese but English can be selected from one of the options along th...

Re: Ebay 2M radio

Hi I have a QTY 8900R. This is the upgraded version where they have added a fan to cool the unit. I would avoid the older QTY 8900 with no fan. It is a very small radio so heat sinking is minimal. The QTY 8900R has a speaker socket as well as a separate programming socket but the QTY 8900 only has a...

If you go down the silicon adhesive path use the gutter sealant type as it is not corrosive to metal like the more common silicon adhesive.

Good one Danny Makes life somewhat easier. however it looks to me like the WIA Plans used shows what the WIA have planned for the future and these do not reflect what is currently present (eg: current 70cm repeater inputs of which some are in the LIPD area). Not sure if a similar situation also appl...

Re: Uniden Scanner - are they all deaf ?

Test the Scanner with a signal generator if you can. This will tell you how the Scanner compares with the published specifications.

If ththe Scanner is within the ball park of the published specifications then overloading will be the problem when it is connected to an antenna at your QTH.

To be considered as a Carrier you will need to have a Carrier Licence. If you have a Carrier Licence I believe that there may be a number conditions attached which may make holding a Carrier Licence not worth while (unless you actually are in the business of being a Carrier).
