Re: Winter 2020 VHF-UHF Field Day Contest - 20&21 June
Greetings again.... It seems that the drizzle which prevailed most of today may have kyboshed most activity. It's certainly the reason why I'm not out anywhere this evening.... Although the BOM is forecasting Sunday as a carbon copy of today, I propose to do a "rain check" (pun intended!) ...

Winter 2020 VHF-UHF Field Day Contest - 20&21 June
Greetings to all, I wasn't sure into which posting category I should place this announcement - I guess that it's of more interest to readers of this category than contests in general or purely 144 and 432 MHz, but the Winter VHF-UHF FD Contest is only a week away. An announcement plus the rules are ...

Re: Brisbane SEQ MAD Sunday 24 May 2020
Greetings to all! My present plan is for Jason VK4YOL and me to activate the BVHFG's VK4IF call sign, operating from the promontory overlooking Moreton Bay at Shorncliffe, Brisbane, where the grid locator is QG62NQ. This location will be a bit of a "try it out and see" experiment....Geoff ...

G'dday everyone! Weather permitting, my plan is to again activate Kamarun Lookout, QG61NU, all bands from 1.3 GHz to 76 GHz. Available liaison "channels" are 146.50 or 146.55 or 439.00 FM Simplex; the Mt Glorious 147.00 2M repeater, 1296.150 or 1296.175 USB, or text messaging to 0428 19106...

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019
Good morning Quentin.
On this outing - I should be leaving for Mt Gravatt in a half hour or so - 5760 will be well catered for. but 3398 will be a 'minimalist' system. Liaise on 146.5 or 146.55 or 439.0 FM simplex.

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019
Thanks Scott for your posting this morning. Despite the weather now revealing a beautiful morning, based on the likelihood of there not being other stations around (portable or home), I have decided not to make the two-hour drive (each way) down to Kamarun Lookout today. Instead, if anyone wants to ...

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019
Hi y'all! It's Saturday evening and the forecast weather for tomorrow is not too bad - only a little windy, more so on hill tops, I imagine. We should have known better than to be scared off by the forecasters at the BOM..... So I propose to go out to Kamarun Lookout and to be there in the middle of...

Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket
Thanks Mark for your suggestion - it is a passing concern for me as well, but I'm not about to fix things that "ain't broke yet"! You and other readers may be interested in the fact that I have solved my problem already following a very helpful suggestion from Guy at "VK Radio Repairs...

FT-817 DC Input Socket
Greetings to all readers. One of my FT-817 radios (used as IF transceivers for microwave bands) has developed a strange situation inside the DC input connector. I'm looking for helpful suggestions that may lead to a solution. What has actually happened is that a 1.5mm thick annulus of plastic has sn...

Re: MAD - Sunday February 24, 2019
Hello to all readers. The date set for this "Microwave Activity Day" is part of a schedule of similar outings that is published on the Brisbane VHF Group web pages. These are all on Sundays because taking microwave gear portable is greatly to be preferred in the daytime and, as Scott has s...

2019 Summer VHF-UHF Field-Day Contest
Greetings to all readers! This event is coming up this coming week-end. Weather permitting, on the Sunday morning I propose to be operating from Kamarun Lookout near the Lamington National Park (QG61NU) using all bands from 50 MHz to 76 GHz inclusive. In a different way from my usual pattern of FD o...

Weather permitting, my plan for next weekend is to be at Kamarun Lookout (QG61NU) on the Saturday evening from about 6:30 p.m. onwards (local time) followed by being at Mt Gravatt in Brisbane (QG62MK) on the Sunday morning starting around 6 a.m. I should have all bands av...

Greetings to all!
All the VK4RBB signals are now back 'on air', as of about an hour ago.
Please report by way of 'spotting' on the VK-Logger.
Cheers and 73,

Re: VK4RBB - Brisbane beacons - Off-air - Nov 2018
Greetings to all readers. This is just a short note to advise that, as of this afternoon, all transmissions from VK4RBB have been turned off to allow for trouble shooting of the 3398 MHz hardware which reportedly has failed in recent days. Initial inspection pointed to a damaged DC power connector o...

Thanks for your posting, Kevin. For the MAD, I plan to be operating portable from somewhere on high ground near the middle of North Stradbroke Island. Greetings to all. This coming Sunday morning will see the VK4RBB suite of beacons cease transmission for a few weeks. Re: Elcom Synthesizer - Model 1301
Greetings to all! It seems to me as if the available supply of useful Elcom synths is gradually drying up (or, for some models, has already dried up), but I am guessing that quite a few are still stashed away in drawers waiting for project impetus to happen.....[Hey, if anyone has a '1295 model that...

Re: IC-7300 - Software Defined Radio
Greetings again to all readers. Responding to Steve VK3MEG's suggestion that I consider an ELAD radio instead of the '7300, the chief reason I'm still attracted to the '7300 is that I can have a waterfall display (albeit an abbreviated one) of weak signals without connecting an additional computer. ...
