Re: 2 x Optibeam 6 element 6m yagis.

Brenton That antenna on a 6m boom has about 47 deg horizontal -3dB beam width and about 56 deg vertical beam width As per DL6WU stacking distance formula that I use for years it shows that OPTIMUM stacking distance will be 7.4m horizontally and 6.4m vertically. With such stacking distance you will g...

Re: The first Chinese HF rig?

RX sensitivity of these looks very poor - you won't hear too much with 0.5µV or even 1µV while even mid range transceivers from Yaesu, Icom, Ten-Tec and others are as standard at less than 0.2µV Most likely similar are specifications on TX (IP3, IMD) and other specifications ... Probably it will tak...

Re: View on Cycle 24 and future prospects

Head up Wayne, the real thrill is yet to come ... My last and only VK's worked on 6m were VK4FNQ (QG39) and VK4CXQ (QH30) - both worked with a GP and 50W on March 3. 2002. around 9 AM If you now take a look at solar cycle 23, you can notice that was well after cycle peak and VK9XI was worked in Apri...

Re: Dual band antenna

Hi Ben You can find few designs at DK7ZB web pages ... http://www.qsl.net/dk7zb/Duoband/duoband_principles.htm I had tried to design something like that but never got reasonably good performance so gave up on that ... my result was very similar to what Martin presented and for me that was not good e...

Re: Is EME worth a go?

Wayne For couple of years I worked several stations on 6m EME with only 7 el. yagi and 100W delivered from FT847 so there is no reason to be reluctant about at least taking a listen when best EME conditions (low DGR and noise temperature) ... log in to ON4KST JT65 EME chat room and you will see wher...

Re: FT 847 and Tigertronics Signalink

Wayne I am using FT847 with G4ZLP interface connected to mini DIN socket for years and using it for all data modes without problem so definitely can confirm it works with USB as well as LSB mode ... the most important is that it is full plug and play device so it worked the moment I connected cables...

Re: JT65 problems

I have also had the same issues with RF feedback getting into the USB port of one laptop. Solved by placing clip-on ferrite sleeves on both ends of the USB to signalink lead. I would also first look at this potential reason for your trouble - when started using high power out of nowhere WSJT and mo...

Re: High VSWR at Low power then comes good at High Power...

I would first look at some loose connection at 10m element taper .... At high power (and much higher current flow) loose connection start conducting and after a while at low power it looses it Might also be aluminium surface corrosion at taper joint since antenna is in the air for 2 years exposed to...

Re: WANTED 50pF 15 kV DoorKnob caps (50MHz LPF)

Great job Bob, I got same result right away and it really showed it's value - neighbor's TV antenna for analog TV is less than 20m away but absolutely no problem with TVI at full 1.5k output ... See you soon on my MS for EME QSO and a new DXCC ... hope to be QRV March 25-30 for at least few days if ...

That 50pF capacitor is the same I used

Since Bob listed 25pF capacitors as well , it might be of interest to some of you to use those for a 2m high power LPF

Re: WANTED 50pF 15 kV DoorKnob caps (50MHz LPF)

Kevin, few months a go I have built that 6m LPF based on K1WHS data but used 7.5kV NPO door knob capacitors LPF is installed right at the RF deck output of my GS35b amplifier and tested at full 1.5kW power without any problems with excellent results However, original coils were not producing correct...

Hi guys

Just yesterday spoke on ON4KST R1 6m chat with Puiu YO5BIM and he told me he will be operating again as P29VIM in March and April

Hope at that time we get some F2 opening and a chance to make it from EU

Re: Element mounting ideas/methods

Over past 25 years used many different methods and most of them worked fine However, lately I am using only heat shrink tubing over the element center and fix it in position with hot melting glue and it proved to be very easy and reliable - my current EF0213M was built 3 years a go and still did not...

Adam From years of experience I can tell you that putting 432EME12 right in the center between two 2M12 antennas will work perfect and mutual influence is so small that it can be ignored. However, making such model is not difficult so before writing these lines I created model similar to yours ... S...

Re: Noise Figure...?

Hi all Ted, as you said, actual NF of LNA in large depends on input construction so I would say it can be possible to get better result if you know how to do it - reduce self generated noise and internal loss by LNA to a minimum. I was working a lot of time with YU1AW and have built many of of his p...

Re: 6m in Russia?

Officially, operators in Russia don’t have license for 6m band which is unfortunate However, from time to time some of them take chances and make a call to stations they hear on the band and more often we can see them post DX cluster spot about what they hear. I have worked several of them over the ...

Hi John As someone suggested, use VK5DJ's DL6WU design calculator to make this antenna, it will work well and will have just about the same specifications as the ON6MU design you opted intitially ... There are few serious missleading instructions on ON6MU page and you may wery well end up with anten...
