Re: Solar power systems

hi Adrien, I think that most of the european inverters are fine, my Aurora inverter (italian) is only 2 meters from my radios and I get no interference from it. Some local hams up here have fitted cheaper chinese inverters and have had heaps of noise problems. The EU inverters apparently have to mee...

Re: Digital Mode signal reporting

hi John, that might be a good way to go. Various digi modes have totally different methods of giving a signal report eg 26 for FSK (still not sure what that is meant to be) others use various types of signal to noise ratio but they all seem different. I like the idea on the webpage regards Wayne VK4...

N Connectors for LMR400uf

Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows a cheaper N type (clamp) coax connector to fit LMR400uf.
Rojone have the TC-400-NMC which is fairly expensive. The problem with normal N connectors is the hole in the pin is too small for the larger LMR400uf centre wire.

Re: Noise levels

hi John, get similar noise problems here as well.Night time can have s9 noise on 20M, its just like the noise floor rises to s9 no distinct sound to it. Unfortunatly there are so many non radio friendly devices these days its hard to avoid them and noise blankers on radios can only do so much. Pool ...

Re: WSJT9 experimental MS mode... JTMS on 144MHz

hi Kevin, after looking on the internet how to activate JTMS and Diana I found this web page that gives a good explaination of how to do it http://radioshack.co.za/smf/index.php?topic=698.0 I followed the instructions which were fairly simple and it seems to work ok. I am hopeless with computers so ...

Re: Working RTTY "UP"???

hi Theo when the CQ says up and doesnt have a number eg up 2 for up 2khz you would transmit split anything from 1khz to 5khz above his frequency. The TX station usually tunes up and down those frequencies looking for callers. A good trick is to locate the station he is working before you and come up...

Re: Ferrite beads for 6 meter aerial balun

Thanks Bob and Jayson. The reason for the 4.1 design was that G0KSC recommended them for stacking and they will stack at 4.1M veriical and Horizontal which makes for a nice small stack. Bob ZL1RS what balun did you use on your LFA antennas?

Re: Ferrite beads for 6 meter aerial balun

hi Jayson, I am looking at making four of the G0KSC 4.1 m boom 6M yagis and stacking them on a H frame.I was going to use the 1/4 wave balun but I was under the impression that I might still have to use ferrites as well. It would be a lot cheaper if you dont have to use the ferrites.Just wondering h...

Ferrite beads for 6 meter aerial balun

hi all just wondering if anyone knows a good supply of ferrite beads to go over LMR400uf coax to make a choke balun for a 6 meter G0KSC LFA yagi. Someone mentioned that Jaycar had cheap ferrites tht may be suitable. Would anyone know the part number and how many you would need for a 6 meter yagi reg...

Re: 6M Poll

hi Steve, interesting lot of questions. I will try and answer them in some detail on another day. I often wonder out of all of the bands 6 meters seems to be the most controversial. Maybe because it is the magic band. Every operator has a different perspective on what they want to do and get out of ...

Rope to guy tower

hi all just a quick question has anybody used rope instead of guy wire to guy their tower. I have a 12Meter 2 stage tower and wanted to use rope for the top guys to minimise interaction to some aerials on a H frame, which the lower aerials will be below the top of the tower. Any suggestions on the t...

I homebrewed my hexbeam and the swr was excellent from 20m to 10m.It has a small footprint and can be turned by a very light rotator.Everyone I talk to love their hexbeams. regards Wayne VK4...

Re: TS-590S or FT-950 as a new radio?

Hi Jack, I'd like to second Andy VK6OXs comments on the TS590. I have had my TS590 radio for about 18 months and I cannot fault it. It has a very good receiver on 6 meters comes with all the filters included and when you have a look on the various forums apart from a blown rx fuse on some earlier pr...
