Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket

Hi Doug. I haven't encounted your issue but iv never been happy with the DC plug/socket arrangement, presumeably its the same on the 897. The plug and socket have 2 pins neg and 2 pin pos but they dont mate tight so I suspect there is a volt drop across them under load. Its been my intention to remo...

Re: Cheap WIFI amp Mods for 2.4 (and up?)

I had a play a few years back with a lower power unit. I found quickly that the o/p device was not suitable for 100% carrier having been designed for a Tx/Rx duty cycle. Recently I purchased a 1.8G cell PA rated to 20 odd watts but at 2.4 could only get around 10w which is not to be sneezed at. All ...

Re: FT-857/897 deaf on 2m?

Iv had mine on a generator and I hear down to -130 ish from memory. The only real way will to compare it with a few known good radios.. I suspect its more of a noise figure issue than being deaf. Sinad readings would also be a good way to tell, Think I saw a sinad test on utube somewhere. As the 897...

Re: What has FT8 done for 6m ?

In my view FT8 shows how bad things really are. Its a great asset but only a few years ago we were struggling to find a clear SSB freq. Gone is the prop that we were so used to, Off to the beach, think ill make some 6m mobile contacts to VK.. Gone are the 10m contacts into EU.. 49.75 vids are virtu...

Re: FS1000A 433 MHz SAW ASK transmitters

Hi Adam. Be interesting to see the reply if indeed you get one. I had a xtal in a cct that stopped oscillating at a given temp. I was able to prove this to the supplier, in this instance they were the manufacturer so they sent me replacements. Id be asking for a handful of free boards for you troubl...

Re: FT8 version 2 is coming

My experiences with the changeover. Finding the link I downloaded the software. Checking our internet speed ( we have glass to the modem) i saw 84MB/s but the wsjt was only downloading at a dreadful 11k/bps. After the download i ran the install and noted lots of errors, clicking ignore I saw a messa...

Re: Using FT-857 or 897 with transverters

Yep.. radio power out is unstable for the first few milisecs, not that great if your powering LDMOS if you protection is not upto scratch. To get around this i dont use on AM or FM for testing. Needless to say an attenuator is mandatory. This maybe of interest... http://ka4cid.blogspot.com/2008/11/r...

SHL 7008 23cm Power block

Hi all. A few years back I purchased this UHF power block https://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-MOTOLORA-SHL7008-SHL-7008-Module/392113004138?hash=item5b4bc19e6a:g:CooAAMXQLs5RpVxG at around $12nz it was worth the gamble. A spare hour in the workshop saw me mounting it up and throwing some drive at it from t...

Re: Electric Blanket EM Field - When it's turned off

Hi Brian. My guess is that the switch on the controller is controlling a scr of triac or whatever. If the controller off position and be reconfigured to interrupt the phase then no field should be present when switched off. Even with this field present as there is no current flowing then no emf will...
