Re: My FLEX1500 appears to have karked it. Repairer needed
Thanks to all I have traced the voltage past the on off switch. I have had a good sniff and visual inspection all without much luck. I will go back and have another look ,now that I have got over my bout of depression caused by its failure. I didn't notice the 5V test point. Those high res photos wi...

My FLEX1500 appears to have karked it. Repairer needed
Hi all My flex 1500 has died in me. I was using it to drive transvertor among other things. Does anyone know of a competent repairer in Australia or should I send it to its maker in the states. Might have to mortgage the home to pay the freight !. Just for the information for those with this rig I t...

Re: Yaesu FT8900 Need a repairer
Thanks to all for the helpful responses. It has been on every day for about 12 hours for the last five years. I will have another look inside. Nothing looked distressed on the top board when I had an earlier look.. If it is a write off at least have a spare head for the mobile as I find it a great r...

Yaesu FT8900 Need a repairer
Hi all
I have a FT8900 which is very sick.
I noticed it was very hot to touch then saw that it was drawing 5 amps on rx!
Can anyone tell me who is the Australian Yaesu repairer or maybe somebody
who can repair them.
Cheers Jack

Re: Blind Calling
Hi all
Thank you for your responses and I now understand.
We are "lucky" here in the west in that hump spotting is
limited to whale watching.
Sometimes I think it would be good to have some qrm on 6.
Good dx Jack

Blind Calling
Hi all Excuse my ignorance but what is blind calling? If you mean calling cq based on the indicators looking OK then why is it a problem? I think the logger is great but operating purely based on what appears on logger is not particularly productive. There are many operators who do not use logger an...

NW of WA Pilbara Region ..Portable Operation 6M
Hi all I am setting off on the 7th of July caravanning in the Pilbara region in the general vicinity of VK6REX which is frequently heard in JA. I will be operating portable with a 4 el yagi and a FT897 mainly on six and some times on hf 7.093Mhz. When in range of Telstra I will be on logger. My oper...

What annoys me most is that the DX is so bad that I take time to read threads like this.

SDR-IQ CODAR Reception
Hi All Has anyone had a play with CODAR(Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar). There is a good introduction on http://www.rfspace.com. It appears to be used widely and can be seen if you scan through the hf bands. eg 5200KHz To me I think it looks a drawing of a spring on the sdr display. I wou...

Re: Calling frequencies (yes again!)
I have little time for hf contacting and fail to understand that making a "contact" of half a dozen words using a zillion watts is some sort of achievment. Is this what we want on six metres ? I happen to enjoy making contact with the same stations many times. This sort of behaviour is oft...

Re: Backscatter Radar
Hi
Please excuse my ignorance as it has probably covered before
But what is the "source" of the backscatter radar ie are you generating it or
is a commercial signal?
In "Amateur Radio Astronomy" by ZS5JF he shows how to build your own meteor scatter
radar.
