Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket
Grant, Sorry for the long delay in this response. You may well have a solution to that problem by now. I found that the plug on the dc cable provided with the radio (which was sold to me by the 2nd owner) was not reliable and at one point I did decide to remove the socket and soldered a cable with a...

Re: Spring VHF/UHF FD plans?
Update: wind forecast for Perisher on Sunday is >90 km/h, that is not antenna-friendly.
We are going to identify a different summit to activate. we have discussed it tonight at our SOTA dinner.

Spring VHF/UHF FD plans?
I’m contemplating a visit to Mt Perisher on Sunday for a SOTA activation and wondering if there will be field stations on the 2m band in the last hour of the contest, ie. from 0000 to 0100? If so we will make an effort to be on for the last hour or so. We will have 2m ssb gear and 1296 ssb 25w. Andr...

Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket
Hi Ian, Yes I’ve seen a few variations on the plug retainer idea. I couldn’t use that, as a previous owner of the radio lost the original dc cable with the right-angled plug. A standard plug it is even more likely to be pulled out. So the powerpole adaptor was a great solution. Cheers Andrew VK1DA/V...

Re: FT-817 DC Input Socket
I know this is a late response to your question, Doug, but you might consider installing a powerpole adaptor permanently on your 817. I’ve done that and it looks like a solid connection that provides the powerpole socket needed, rather than the loose wire I once used. They have been offered by a sel...

What's the SOTA reference for "The Vere"?Now if you happen to have a SOTA summit in the middle of a restricted military training area, where would be a really, really cool place to go? "The Vere"...

2m arrays and towers - ex VK2KU (SK)
I have just submitted two ads to the Classifieds here (see Classifieds link in sub title banner above) offering the towers and antenna systems ex VK2KU (SK). Also posted a note similar to this, in the EME discussion board. Please forgive the size of the ads, the quality and significance of these ant...

http://www.mnds.com.au/vkcl/ is the principal source of info about VKCL. No mention of Linux versions. But best to contact Mike direct there is an email contact shown on that page in image format for spammer protection, so I won't repeat it here.

Re: What are people using for computer logging on VHF contes
Hi Simon The requirement for separate sequence numbers per band can be met by using the multi-op option in VKCL. I use that. I then have to edit my output TXT file to change the Section, Update the header on each page saying Multi-op to Single-Op, and I'm done. I find continuous sequences across all...

Re: Heads Up!: 2015 Spring VHF-UHF Field Day
It's actually quite simple: Each new grid square on each new band is worth more initial points, the total being set by the band multiplier (see the FD rules for the mult details). Subsequent contacts into the same grid square on the same band gains only a few points. Indeed, it is a good illustrati...

Re: Heads Up!: 2015 Spring VHF-UHF Field Day
Peter, Thanks to you also. Agreed, the CW contacts are equivalent to adding 10db compared with the same power on ssb. Most cw ops can copy down to about -8db s:n, at least I can, according to the WSJT S/N test. Would have been interested to try 2.4 GHz but with conditions as they were, it did look l...

Re: Heads Up!: 2015 Spring VHF-UHF Field Day
Just uploaded my log for the third time, after editing out errors discovered in various ways. Did not realise there were bonus points depending on /P or not added to callsign. Re-checked all portables. Then had to remove /P from VK2HZ as they were not a field station. So, 3 uploads so far, apologies...

Logs for the QRP Hours contest in April have been processed. First place in the SSB section went to Ian VK5CZ in the Clare Valley of South Australia. Overal...
