Not to mention if using an SDR. Many only have SMA sockets so to use an external antenna needs an adapter. I have a couple of dongle type SDR's and the SDRPlay RSP2 which all only have SMA sockets. Without adapters I would be up the creek without a paddle.

I would get yourself a dummy load and then check. Don't rely on a antenna tuner to check your swr by
and certainly not the almost useless rubber ducky antenna that came with it. Personally I would not even
rely on the inbuilt swr indication but that's just me and my preferences.
