Re: Icom IC-9700 Pre-release brochure
The official word from Icom Japan :D http://www.icom.co.jp/world/news/181214/?fbclid=IwAR1ZyRDj5ni1aCZmy8oie6ua4Uipk2oMhenEI814fMUrP2QjQCkwtW2B1Jo Or is it the official word from a hacker? I am skeptical. The writing in the title in the tab of that page still mentions Icoms deal with Iridium Commun...

I'd be surprised if it is released before Dayton Hamvention.

Re: Don't trust all SMA - SO239 adapters
Not to mention if using an SDR. Many only have SMA sockets so to use an external antenna needs an adapter. I have a couple of dongle type SDR's and the SDRPlay RSP2 which all only have SMA sockets. Without adapters I would be up the creek without a paddle.

Re: Problem with mapping tool
See this page. Could be the reason. https://stackoverflow.com/questions/50977913/google-maps-shows-for-development-purposes-only WSPRnet maps has the same problem. I have seen a number of webpages with the problem. From the above web page Google Maps is no longer free. You have to associate a credit...

Re: Uniden Scanner - are they all deaf ?
Getting less signal when I install a decent antenna , rather than the rubber ducky antenna it came with , leads me to think the receiver may be saturated. USB stick type SDR's suffer similar problems. The stronger a nearby transmitter the deafer they appear. Try further afield and see if it still a...

Re: Werner Wulf antenna.
There is no action on 52MHz, we SSBers are all on 50MHz Beacons, FSK, WSPR, JT65 etc.. On 52MHz, we still have 52.525MHz simplex and 6m repeaters. Put up a 5/8 vertical. Alan VK2ZIW Now that is a bit wrong. There is activity on 52MHz as standard license does not allow 50MHz so 52MHz is where their ...

Re: Elecraft 2m transverter thoughts and comments.
Hi Steve, if you are more interested in rx than tx, how about using a converter rather than a transverter. Cheaper than a transverter and probably easier to obtain on the second hand market. When I was using my SDR-IQ I bought a 6m converter and that worked ok. Can't see why similar for 2 and 70cm w...

Re: Your licence is due for renewal but
If you find the payment portal awkward (I have absolutely no idea what it is or what it looks like) Why not pay by Bpay. That's how I have paid for years. and for the record I got my paper renewal about a month before my license expired when it arrived early August and my paper receipt/station licen...

Hi Shane, no I am not nor can I see myself receiving it in the near future, but there seems to be an interest in satellites lately. How about a small post of what you use or what is required and you might create some interest.

Re: FT-817 Strange Fault - High SWR (HF)
I would get yourself a dummy load and then check. Don't rely on a antenna tuner to check your swr by
and certainly not the almost useless rubber ducky antenna that came with it. Personally I would not even
rely on the inbuilt swr indication but that's just me and my preferences.

Hi Theo, I have not had that happen to me because I don't have one, but it looks like possibly a plastic conduit type insulator with the ali tube in it. If it is a standard conduit size you could try this type of thing. conduit.jpg Should be available at any electrical supply place, Bunnings maybe e...

Re: Beacon Database changes
My thoughts, (so you get at least one reply) Should OCXO stabilised entries also be included in "Locked only" searches? No. Could another tick box or drop box be added for Stabilised Only and bring up the lot and then leave Locked Only to only display GPS and Rubidium locked entries. Not w...
