Re: low noise solar inverters

I am looking at installing a system shortly. When I googled the ABB Aurora I found some hideous stories about how unreliable they are, and recommending the Fronius. Any comments?

Cheers

Aw come on... where's your sense of fun! Nothing quite like all your hair standing up... happened to me years ago at Ben Lomond Trig in northern NSW... direct hit to the tower while I was in the hut. At least I witnessed the lightning protection do its job.

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

I was lucky with the hole Steve... I had forgotten that there was an old absorption trench there so the backhoe hit a concrete lid, some bricks & then there was a cavity. Lucky it wasn't still in use... he hit a solid rock shelf at about 1800mm down so I wound up with a hole much wider than I ne...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

G'day Steve, Sounds good with your setup! Looks like timing might be in my favor this time, I've arranged with Brian for us to stop in on our way from VK1 to GippsTech, it'll give me a change to chat to Brian and have a look at his new extendable mast that fits into the tilt over base he has. P.S> ...

Re: I wonder what ACMA plans with 56-70MHz?

I understand that ACMA have certain priorities at the moment and looking at a potential amateur band at 70MHz isn't one of them, however I don't see what harm would come if the WIA (a) pointed out to the ACMA its support for a small (100kHz) allocation, (b) attached the evidence that the two users w...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Well I've got my NBS mast up & the Emtron TE-46 is working fine now... nice to finally be back on the air after so long! But here is my question for today... where is the best place to attach the earth lug & cable on a NBS mast? My thought was to use one of the rotator base mount bolts... Ch...

Re: Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions

Clearly, the rent charged for the Wyong venue is substantially different from the EMDRC venue; one reason for the differential in entry price. : If you knew the cost of running that FD you would have a heart attack. Race Course hire, Security, Garbage , Catering, Council and Police liaison et al. T...

Re: Wyong Field Day 2016 - Impressions

At last a bit of logic and common sense. It's really easy to be a consumer and complain, much harder to be a provider and keep everyone happy. But Lou without consumers there would be no providers. I think you, and CCARC, miss the point of having a Hamfest. To get as many consumers in the one place...

Re: Exam / Licence Price & Young People ..

When you write "the WIA should waive the fees" you really mean "WIA members should be paying the fees on their behalf". The fees go to ACMA and the ACMA aren't going to waive them. I suggest you raise the idea of WIA fees being raised to cover this- given the tsunami that the las...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

I picked up my mast from Brian yesterday. I'm hoping to get the hole dug this week & the concrete poured next week... I still have until Wyong before Mark gets me my TE-46 so I still have a few weeks to get it finished. But I can't wait...

Re: Claytons CW

I recently had a meeting with a visiting American exec about the future of Pocsag paging. To my amazement he suggested 2 tone... it works, never fails, and has been doing so since many here were in nappies. But do you call that progress? In an era where we can go and buy a superb set of noise cancel...

Re: NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Yes Nev I was thinking the same... I want to mount mine fairly close to a covered verandah and I was concerned about how close it could get... I'm on a pretty typical block that is deeper than it is wide so I want the mast to drop towards my back fence. I think it will work...

2000mm deep by 450mm square. 25Mpa concrete is specified.

The box steel section is 89mm x 89mm x 3mm. This normally comes in 8m lengths weighing 9kg/m. Edcon are delivering mine ($90... ouch!).

Thanks guys! That info is brilliant- just what I was after. Michael your photos were just what I was after... The 8m of pipe is sorted- luckily living in Sydney Edcon Steel are not far away & they will deliver. All up the steel looks like costing around $200. Heading down to pick it up in the ne...

NBS Tilt Over Mast Experiences

Hi all, I'm about to invest in one of Brian's (NBS) tilt over mast mounts to support a TET TE-34. Now I've dealt with Brian before & no-one has to tell me how good a bloke he is. I know he is... But I'm not the most mechanically gifted individuals & am looking for tips and tricks others used...

Re: HF isn't dead yet...

A number of NSW government agencies have been trialing "Digital HF" for areas in western NSW. From what I hear they are very impressed. It uses the latest CODAN developed technology.
