Re: FT-857/897 deaf on 2m?
Several of us had both FT857/897 the hidden menu was a help and the 2metre reception improved, remembering that I/we used 2 x 14 element yagis/with a mini kits preamplifier. IC910 for some, took their place on the bench with less improvement. Then I found the Elecraft K3, well the world is my oyster...

Re: IC-9100 fault
Yes Kevin I did, was doing construction work at the QTH in 2016, as I was not using it I gave it to AMG as a test rig. Turns out it was also hit by bad weather/maybe op/error prior to me boxing it up, either way he fixed it (being part Q1251 on the VRX board) and we moved on has never reoccurred.

Re: The future for amateur radio in VK
Can we have a sensible discussion about costs on a dedicated thread or am I being too optimistic? I have read most posts and Adam has a valid point "If thing go on as normal then I will have very little chance to communicate to another ham in the future". I have gone from a foundation to a...

Re: F-Call thoughts
Yes Roger, It seems a lot of the contributors to this post have not read the WIA LCD paper with its changes to both the standard and foundation calls. I think some one is at least trying to help the hobby grow. If any or all is adopted I for one will be pleased with the extras for a standard call. M...

Re: 23-on-23 May 23, 2015.... and 2.4GHz plus activation?
Had a great time yesterday sorry about 2.4 and 10 ghz next time. Didn t manage to contact all operators but looking at the logger after the event from the qth,we were spread far and wide heard MIL and 2MAX but unable to return the contact with them as we were running grid packs only from MtGravatt. ...

fd 003.JPG We set off at 3:30 am to Cleveland Pt. qg62pl and got set up by about 5.00 am; we were up and running. We chose this location for the beach outlook and lots of sights walking, running along the esplanade always thinking and promoting the Hobby and of course our numbers were down due to th...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!
Must agree here Adam to most you have outlined, but as a newer microwave entrant I see work family and other commitments to hinder this end of the hobby. HF to 1296 seem easier as the commercial gear is available to buy and use, further on is great to build, but harder to set up(like find a hill),th...

Yes love the idea 160m, had a go on 160 metres a few HF contests back, what a buzz. VK6 3 5 and 2's SSB, all with a vertical No need to worry about std & F calls, just get the clubs involved if there is provision. Thanks Kevin.

Re: 2014 Winter Field Day
There is one thing I/we can say, what ever way its scored good or bad, I/we have found VK4WIE has slowly been adding higher bands to its field day kit and the people coming (HF) to help are also getting interested in these bands. So it can t be all that bad, we have had to do 8 hrs stints closer to ...
