Re: Aligning a Rotator
Hi Compton, To keep the answer short, the software will be referencing True North. For a bit more of an explanation: Magnetic north is variable depending where you are located on the surface of the Earth - it is simply the direction that a magnetic compass will align. The earths magnetic field is no...

Re: Check You License Renewal
Last time I renewed my licence I encountered the same issue regarding a 5 year renewal option. After a quick call to the ACMA, a custom renewal invoice was emailed to me with the 5 year fee. I was then able to follow the usual renewal process on the ACMA website. I suggest giving them a call as it a...

Hi John,
It's the Heathcote repeater - VK2RLE.
They frequently transmit digital modes. Mostly Slow Scan TV.
Sometimes during a net and sometimes just in QSO mode.
Jump in and say HI. They are a friendly bunch.
Cheers,
Dave.

I recently found this little box of matches from a time when it was O.K to have a little risqué fun.
One of the many stunts by VK2DIK - Dick Smith.
I'm sure that some of you remember the April Fools Day stunts that he concocted over the years!

Re: Rubidium drop out of lock with RF?
I had the same issue with mine Rob. Especially with ssb fluctuations.
It works fine with a dedicated power supply though.
Definitely related to power supply voltage. I spent quite some time determining that RFI was not an issue.

I've had problems with Prolific based devices in the past. After I changed to FTDI based converters I have had no problems at all!

Re: Computer- Radio connection
Hi Darren, With the Yaesu radios, you often need to "read" from the radio at least once before using the software to program it. If you try to write to the radio without reading from it first, you will get the symptoms that you are describing. If you haven't already done this, give it a go...

Possible VKCL Problem
Hi Iain,
Sorry to hear about your logging difficulties. I'm glad that you had a backup strategy!
I used VKCL Ver 3.3 with no problems at all. (Windows 7 64 bit OS).
Just tested it on the MacBook Pro in a parallels virtual machine (also Win 7) with no problems.
Possibly a corrupted download?

Re: Amateur gear out of band - illegal?
There are also other scenarios that have come up in the past regarding some of the Chinese hand held radios, capable of transmitting on large segments outside the amateur bands. It has been stated in other posts, that inspectors have informed Amateurs during station inspections that it is illegal to...

An offer too good to refuse!
I have purchased from this supplier previously - connectors and custom cables, with good results.
Looks like I will check my parts box and do a top up.

Trash,
Nice collection of metal in the air!
What are you using in the goose neck section, RG style coax, Heliax type feedline or something else?
Cheers,
Dave.
