I needed a new fibreglass x boom for my Maspro X yagi sat antenna set up on my El rotator. Couln't find a local source who had stock or who c/would make qty less than KMs. The M2 one out of the USA was perfect but was going to be expensive at $249.00 USD + freight so I went searching in China. I fou...

Re: 2016 Summer VHF-UHF Field Day
snip General activity levels were very low for us in Sydney. Not much local traffic was heard on any of the bands compared with previous years. snip This is a far bigger issue than how to score it. I have stopped entering these contests as the activity is to low in the Sydney area to make it enjoya...

Anyone got any reports of recent repeater QRM activity in Sydney?
I am hearing on the grapevine that there has been some and that fox hunting skills are being requested.

My solar hot water tubing is glued down with a specific type of silicone. If you can't google it then let me know & I can find the tube in the back of the shed.

It was Icoms label, not mine. If Icom cant provide a label that is suitable for purpose what is the point of aggravating their customer?VK3DXE wrote:

Re: Icom IC-718 receive problem
Becasue the radio didnt have an identifable S/N as it had rubbed off the S/N lable. I sent them a phopo of the label but they refused to support a radio that didnt have a S/N. Stupid in my mind as it was still clearly an Icom radio. One of the reasons I never upgraded to the IC 9100.

Re: Icom IC-718 receive problem
Icom refused to deal direct with me for parts for one repair but did with another request. I was able to deal direct with Icom in the US for the repair that Icom in Melbourne refused to assist on. So with a bit of perserverence you should be able to get what you need from Icom somewhere.....

I filled a PVC pipe with some rod and then resin. It worked but was heavy. I went back to a smaller purpose built pole.

SG 7900 is better as measured by subjective readability reports from others on repeaters.

Re: Harvest Dual Band Mobile Antenna
Yes, I use one of those as my back up (a Comet one) and like you say they are robust. Maybe I just keep using the back up. I can notice a difference in peformance with repeaters I can and cant get into when I move from the closed coil style SG 7900 to the Comet. The Harvest one is red so maybe it wi...

Re: 6m operation on VHF FD weekend
I'll have 52.525 FM running in Ryde, Syndey. Lets see if that works
I can do split for those who can only Tx on 50 MHz as well.
6M in contests is a bit rare but interesting for us poor S calls.
I will also point 2, 70 & 23cm S to see if that works.

Bob, Thanks for the antenna explaination, very helpful. I can now see why I have difficulty with these balloons. Only got room for a 40M loop and 80m bent dipole.
