Re: FT-857/897 deaf on 2m?
Hi, Well I don't have any FT 897s etc but do have some Yaesu radios. I have an FT90r in my smaller car and it was really deaf around -87 for 12 dB SINAD. After much trudging around the IF stages and checking PIN diodes etc I found that the front end tracking gain was not following the frequency. Wou...

Re: Standards for DC Connectors
Hi,
I forgot to attach what I have done for 24 V so in the dark or some other issue, there is no way to mix up 12 & 24 V accidentally.
Cheers,
Simon

Standards for DC Connectors
Hi All, I write a column for our NZ Magazine Break-In (VHF Scene) and always looking and thinking of material to print. Now one of the things us contesters do is sometimes swap / lend equipment to another station which lends the questions like how are they going to power it? What Connectors are they...

Thanks Lou,
Most appreciated. Looks like some others wanted it too judging by the download count.

Cavity Back Dish feeds for 3.4 GHz
Hi All, I found a posting on the VK logger about cavity back dish feeds by Andy VK3ES. I am looking to streamline my contest station a bit and have been using a deepish dish with a loop feed but with the radome etc, makes for quite a heavy and bulky dish. It was an Ericsson 60 cm dish from a minilin...

That is so sad!
I had got an email from him a short while back, telling me of his latest EME DX.
He had completed his 1000th QSO on EME. What a great achievement.
This is such a shock.
We will miss you Harry! A great loss to the ham community.
RIP Harry.

Re: Claytons CW
Hi, Yes they are in use on weak signal VHF / UHF /SHF DX. When signals fade, often the only thing that stands out is the K or T tone. Depending on how many you hear, you can almost tell who it might be as due to the proliferation of types in use with different micros, different tones used, you can a...

Re: Green Interference!!!
Hi, Interesting all this talk about LEDs and RFI. I had heard about an issue where a user decided to change all his incandescent lights on his boat for LED lights. Great light output but the RF hash coming off them was drowning out the Marine VHF radio. This was bordering on a danger to life and lim...

Re: Anyone know about Radia Chipsets??
Thanks Jim, That pointed me in the right direction. Was able to download some old PDFs of the chips. They are obsolete and look quite tricky to drive. At least I know what I am up against. Not so many discrete stages that us hams can reuse. All done in a big chip. Several feeds of 1 wire serial to d...

Anyone know about Radia Chipsets??
Hi All, Happy New Year! A short time back, I had procured a bunch of Axxelera base station modules running on the top end of 3.4 to 3.5 GHz. As usual, one wants to see about how much can be used from the modules or reconfiguring it to work on 3.4 GHz. The unit revolves around some chips made by Radi...

Thanks Guys,
I will have a go with the x version and c see what happens. Interesting about the comms anomalies between programs. Don't see many things using 2 stop bits these days...

WSPR Ver 2.0 and IC7400
Hi All, Happy new year when it comes.. I decided to have a dabble on the WSPR and am using an Icom IC7400 (IC746 pro). I have been having trouble with the CAT setup. There is no generic entry for IC7400 but can pick an IC 746 pro. This is model 346 in the list. I cannot get any comms running.. Looki...

Re: Port forwarding issues on The HG659 Router
Hi Mike, Sounds like any device isn't getting out to the net. Ok so you have an ip address no doubt dished out by DHCP of 192.168.1.5. Start from basics... Open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all, look for the network adapter that you are using. You might have to scroll up a bit. Check the gate...

Re: What are people using for computer logging on VHF contes
Hi Guys, Thanks for the input, interesting to see about the tactics of skipping numbers to get people nervous. I have seen that when people increment the same number group across bands. Gives you a little scare until you then work them on another band and find you get the next number. Agree about no...

What are people using for computer logging on VHF contests?
Hi All, I have been reviewing what I use for VHF contest logging when up in the hills. Historically I have used VKCL as it seems to be a nice simple entry method. I have a few issues with it in that it - A) Does not log in NZ local time, (we use this in our logging). B) Shows repeat contacts as dupe...

Re: DSTAR Vs C4FM Vote
Hi, I think DSTAR is good in that you have the ability to link to wherever you like. Also the fact that most rigs doing DSTAR these days are dual banders. I have had experience with DMR as well and use it and develop application platforms using DMR specifically the Mototrbo kit due to the nice CDC_E...

VK4REX's Email address
Hi,
Sorry If this is the wrong place to post this but was just wondering if someone could send me Rex's (VK4REX) email address. Cant seem to find it in QRZ or in the op info on the VKlogger site.
Please send it to my email address at zl1sww@nzart.org.nz.
Thanks,
Simon
