SG Labs 3400MHz Txvtr

Hi All, just received a SG Labs 3400MHz txvtr. From the factory, it will work 3398, with a 430MHz IF. It seems possible to reprogram the LO, to work with a 435MHz, which I will attempt in the next few days. Published Specs, are pretty much as per the 2400 txvtr; from my limited testing so far, on th...

Re: Microwave Operator Survey

Hi Iain,
Peter VK3APW..... in addition to what you already have on your list, I also have 24, and 47, operational, with 76GHz needing less than a days work to complete.

Re: Standards for DC Connectors

Hi Simon, across the pond, most of us use the config for 12V you described. Personally, for 24V, I use an Anderson long and short spacers, to make the 24V connectors 3 wide, so as there can be no confusion, in low light, etc. The parts numbers are Model: 1399G2, and 1399G6.... they are fairly reason...

Re: Spectral analysis of two Baofeng radios

Just looking at the settings on the analyzer, last time I looked +36dBm ( 4 watts ) minus 20dB ( in line attenuation ) did not equal -13dBm.... there is about 30dB missing. Depending on how this signal loss was achieved, ( accident or design ),it would have a large bearing on the levels or harmonic ...

Re: Heads Up!: 2015 Spring VHF-UHF Field Day

Just wondering if any stations will be sporting 24 & 47GHz in VK3 ( apart from 'ER ), for the Spring FD, please?

Re: Equipment for portable use

Hi Wayne, the Buddipole gear, if cost is not a great consideration, will give you a kit that you can set up, on most bands up to 2M, without the need for a tree etc. It will all packup neatly into a small package, and with the range of 'extras' it can be very versatile. The balun, is almost a must, ...

USB to GPIB Hardware

Hi, does any one have some advice as to what is available 'hardware wise' to put a current laptop on a GPIB bus to control an 'older' HP spec an, with a GPIB bus, please? I would like to use it with the KE5FX tool box, that I think a few folk may already be using, for phase noise measurements. If yo...

Re: Mini kits M1 kit

Hi Ben, yes I am, I have all currently available boards constructed, with most tested. I would be most interested to hear how other intend to package the beast. My thoughts were to construct a valve type chassis, with the DDS underneath, and the analog stuff on top. Big heat sink ( no fan ) for the ...

Hi Peter, I think someone has your 47GHz transverter confused with the DeLorean from 'back to future', or they just plain moved the decimal point, too many places to the right :-) ..........Now if its was the 23 or 13cm boxes, I could believe in dimming lights.... Cheers Peter vk3apw

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!

Hi All, my belief is that this is a VHF/UHF and above, contest. It can be many things to many folk. The operator from a home station, with a couple of bands, can have a wow of a time, making contacts, just as a multi op microwave capable station, perched on a hill. It is what you make of it. I remem...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!

Guys, for the record, the only thing keeping me back this weekend, was the weather. The storms that hit my QTH a couple of days earlier, were scary. As a single op, setting up a portable, 6M to 47GHz station, takes a fair bit of time, and should I have been hit with a storm even half as bad, a lot o...

Re: 5 GHZ Grid Antenna

Hi Nick, thanks for the heads up on the grid pack, that has that idea out of my system. Something I tried that you may be interested in, is a RF Ham design, Ring, Dish feed. I have a Tri band one for 2.4, 3.4 and 5.7, married to an offset fed dish. If you do the math, it does not make a good pair, b...

Hi Andrew,
great job on the housing, you could market them :-) I am interested in the 'pins' for the Anderson plugs, you have used. Are they easily sourced?

Re: Tait T286 power supply.

Hi ZL2ADU, the 286 was a small desk top type supply, which would house a T196, or like mobile, as a local base/trigger link etc The TM348 was the power supply used in the T300 / 800 series rack mounted repeaters... can help with a service manual on the 348, but sadly not the other. Can't imagine the...

Re: HF setup - Equipment choice

Hi Paul, Icom vs Yaesu or Kenwood ??? only a brave man would answer that one :-) I guess the real answer is that any / all of these radios will work, but what do you want from it, backpack portable, mobile, base use, Field days etc, then there is the price consideration. You need to weigh up what yo...

Re: TYT TH-9800

Hi Guys, I have a little experience with the Wouxuns, the failures that I saw, were pin diode switches in the Tx OP path. It would seem that they control the TX power with bias, so if the driver fails, it will still draw heaps of DC, with no appreciable RF O/P. I would not be running any of these ty...

Re: YouKits FG-01 Analyser Calibration?

Rob, for what it is worth, I have seen '50' ohm dummy loads measure anything from 48 to 53 ohms. You just can't assume that your dummy load will be exactly 50 ohms. I have checked my Youkits against a HP4193 VIM, and it appears to be very close. I have also experienced, AM broadcast stations interfe...

Re: Log periodic antennas for VHF and UHF

Hi Wayne, I have a 'bought' LPA that covers 6M to 23cm, it is a Creative Design CPL 5130 -1N, which I decided to use, as are you, for simplicity, rather than performance. I simply can't get enough height to clear the roof, maintain a stacking distance and stay under the 8m council restriction. In an...
