You will find most stations use windozzze, if you have trouble with linux, then dont keep beating your head on the screen, just run W7 instead.
Works fine, no dramas.
I am wondering how Keith is going, please let us know when you want a test signal via the moon.

Re: 2015 Winter VHF/UHF Field Day
Things are going well here fellas. I type this from a tablet thing sitting by a bonfire of logs and stumps etc, bands going from 6m to 23 then 5.7 and 10GHz. The others here have all bands up to 76GHz but they missed out on 24GHz due to technical difficulty. Its time to rest by the fire and we have ...

Re: F-Call thoughts
I think Colin has hit the nail on the head here regarding the incentive to upgrade. the costs are very high and having a waiver of this exhorbitant fee for 2 or 3 retries is a good idea. i was really surprised just how much it costs to get a licence these days considering i was told the marine radio...

Re: minikits PGA-103 LNA 0.05-3GHz
Yes, the pga103 is a good little device. I bought half a dozen from Minikits a while ago and put them in as the front end of a couple of 2m rigs and a tait vhf repeater and they really worked well. But ... they need protection on the input. Back to back diodes and a tuned circuit (or cavity) will ma...

Re: PICO balloon APRS Olivia MEL-NSW-QLD
No worries Andy, its now configured as alias1 wide1 , and alias2 wide2 i have been up and down off the mountain several times today with laptop , radios and cabling to fix it. so far no problems on the local network, i have consulted with the gate operator Kim vk2asy, so its all set and should digip...

Re: PICO balloon APRS Olivia MEL-NSW-QLD
Ok, thanks, but jds-1 is set as a 1-1 digi. how do i get it to digipeat the balloon ? also no packets have gone into the local gate via me or the vk2rao digi, or even directly into the gate itself, although its signal is there and decodes at my place ... its been suggested i set the alias on the tin...

Re: PICO balloon APRS Olivia MEL-NSW-QLD
Hi Andy, I just decoded it as VK3YT-11>APZ269,WIDE2-1:!/_^[(sPOCO etc etc and my mountaintop fill-in 1-1 digi wont repeat it to our local igate which is vk2asy what do i have to change in the configuration of the vk2jds-1 digi to make it repeat the balloon transmission? its good to see i am decoding...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!
You can work EMEwith a dish that size Damian A linear feed like a cavity backed dipole will work, but a septum would be better, and you would be able to work stations of 4 metre dishes or larger, provided you run 40 or more watts on tx. Ideally have a coaxial tr relay and a LNA at the feedpoint, ldf...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!
Great photos! But i am prompted to reply after seeing your generator set in the mt Bunyong pic. During the JMFD I was using a smaller blue generator of the cheap type and after working ok all night the next day it fried the laptop charger. Awful stink of the main electro leaking goo. Measuring the v...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!
People go to great spots high on hills on these contest days. They take all the bands they can with them, Its a great opportunity to try and work these stations. Without these contests no one would go up on these high places and attempt long range microwave contacts (unless its a club event or your ...

Re: Summer field day 2015 - 10/11 January 2015!
Thanks Roger. I have put my log in, running a home station on 6 2 70 23cm 6cm and 3cm Matt and Justin were my microwave contacts out here in the bush as they were roving, so my log is a check-log in reality as i didnt get many other contacts due to commitments here. This brings up an important point...

Re: FT857D display zebra
I have worked on many 857's for add-ons, mods, and repairs, and they are a terrific radio. when 2 of mine failed with the display problem spending the money to repair them is well worth the investment compared to spending 1500 dollars or more on a different but similarly capable set. The part number...

Re: FT857D display zebra
Today I got to take the pics of the 857 display unit so you can see whats going on topside.JPG underneath.JPG you can clearly see there is no strip of carbon conductor like in the old motorola displays, these units are totally different. I hope this will explain to you all that there is no easy fix ...

Re: FT857D display zebra
Hi Bruce, in the case of the ft857 what you describe doesnt work There is no conductive rubber sheet on these and the lcd is directly bonded to the flexicable. No amount of cleaning will solve the problem , which is, that the drive chip is directly bonded to the lcd flexicable and it goes dryjointed...

Re: FT857D display zebra
I have had 2 of mine fail, the lcd has a flexicable which connects to the control panel pcb. mounted on this plastic cable is the lcd drive chip. the chip goes dry jointed underneath itself. there are no pins visible as the chip and its contacts sits directly onto the plastic flexicable, so it cant ...

Hi Rob, it looks good and i like the cake tin idea, sure beats rolling up one using aluminium sheet hihi What sort of radio do you intend using? The program NFM from Owen Duffy makes a handy sun noise rise measuring tool, definately worth installing on your laptop there, and as it uses the audio fro...

Re: Interoperability of Foxtrak
I havent put a cro on the tnc unit inside the dr135 myself Owen , but i was told there was some problem with the filtering of the audio on it. Apparently there was a component change done to improve them , but i dont know what was actually done. anyway, it didnt help it, so i shelved it for the time...
