Re: 3.4GHz transverter conversion

Hi Roger, One of the boards will definately go up on a big dish here. The septum is already mounted, with a G4DDK lna and a transco relay. Sun noise will be interesting. The snow and sleet has hampered progress on outside jobs, so building up the pcbs yesterday was a good inside job to do. Will post...

Re: 3.4GHz transverter conversion

This pic shows the main pcb with the vk5eme relay mounted near the tx and rx duplexer filters. The 2 pcbs under the main board are what i have just constructed. They use a w1ghz relay pcb (the vk5eme would be fine here too) and dremel cut pcb pads with soldered in vias to the groundplane underside. ...

Re: 2015 Winter VHF/UHF Field Day

Thanks Roger, well done getting it sorted out Looks like i was the only participant who entered a log in my section of the contest though... Hopefully next time a few more will have a go and submit a log ; if you can juggle keeping transverters going with multiple breakdowns , following drifting sig...

Database errors when trying to send a message here

Can we help you Roger, in these days of outsourced cloud work etc perhaps something could be done to assist
Or contacting the submitters of the difficult logs for clarifications etc?

Re: 3.4GHz transverter conversion

Over the last few days I have got one of the panel transverters operational following the instructions provided by Lou and the geelong club pdf. It works really well and I encourage you to have a go and get yours going. I chose to bypass both the tx and rx duplexer filters and mounted my TR relay pc...

Re: Dumb EME question #1

In the spirit of 'get a dish up and have a listen' , tonight Graham VK3XDK and his 1.7metre dish received the Stanford uni club station W6YX, Phil vk4cdi and myself via the moon. if you have a dish laying about or can get one then have a go. concrete a pole in with a few bags of quickset and rocks e...

Re: Australian DMR repeater network

Matt and Justin have told me VK2RCG is working well. Its in Gov Phillip Tower and has very good coverage. Talk groups active are World Wide 1 Slot 1, English 13 Slot 1, and VK/ZL 5 Slot 2. If you have one of those SDR TV stick things running DSD+ you can have a listen for minamal cost. http://www.dm...

Re: Dumb EME question #1

By high power, i dont mean over 400 watts, rather a more modest increase to allow the use of a couple of w6pql modules combined. my permit states A transmitter power of 300 watts using CW, JT65 and FSK441 - for the purpose of reflecting singals from a celesial body. Although over the ditch in ZL the...

Re: Dumb EME question #1

Yes, thats the spot , that second photo is good.
Is the house more than 70 metres or so from the location? If it is then a high power permit should be easy.
Those trees in the distance to the north west can be pruned as required.
start digging and mixing concrete :)

Re: Is this a simple way to get on 10 GHz?

We arent tearing them apart, but using them whole Tim. They are great receivers.
10 and 24GHz, and so cheap too. Add a 4 cell lipo pack and you have a great sniffer rx. Add a switch to change it from sweep to a pot to adjust rx freq, a small amp and speaker etc

Re: Dumb EME question #1

Moonset north-west gives me most contacts. The moon drops from 15 degrees to 7 quite fast, but thats when all the action happens. This weekends new contacts were germany and italy on 23cm, they had 3metre dishes. Just get the dish up and have some fun. Minimal mechanicals, aim manuaĺy, have fun with...

Re: Is this a simple way to get on 10 GHz?

In car maybe yes, but at the shack as a receiver for 10 Ghz after a bit of work they are just another receiver. Remove the plastic case and underneath is some horns and diodes connected to a pcb. Its a radio receiver in a band we are licenced to transmit in. Like this ebay item 151734164399 An older...

Re: Is this a simple way to get on 10 GHz?

radar detectors are really good if you can find one in your shed etc.
china sells them on ebay for about $16 or so delivered and ,yes, they do get through customs.
not overly sensitive but workable and they run off 12 volts, so great for portable stations wanting to check tx signal

Re: Dumb EME question #1

Those trees will greatly attenuate the weak signals you are looking for, also they are noisy. Nearfield trees are bad, farfield trees on a ridgeline a kilometre away with the moon setting into those trees will reduce your self echos to near zero however you may still hear strong stations through the...

Hi Paul and Peter, When the moon rises and sets in its northernmost declination having a good view to the horizon to the northwest gives you european coverage, northeast gives you america and canada etc and this is the most active time. When the moon declination is such that it rises in east and set...
