Re: YouKits FG-01 Analyser Calibration?
perhaps the frequency counter function in the analyser isnt reading the correct frequency? you can listen to the carrier coming from the analyser on your 817 and see if its on frequency Rob.. surely it couldnt be that simple though.. what about an assembly problem, like excessive lead lengths on com...

Re: Dormant Licenses
This is so true, a frequency we needed for the town repeater in Orange has been held unused for quite a while, by the remnants of the old Orange radio club, whilst the new regional club required it. Sadly the surposed 'owner' wouldnt release the frequency, so we had to adopt a frequency that our cav...

Re: Remote car locks - thieves sniffing for codes
Fri Dec 13, 2013 4:04 pm About 40 years ago the Sydney Harbour Bridge had boom gates that opened when you paid the toll. One particular gate could be activated by your 25w 2m fm mobile. This gate was very popular with the local 2M mobile users. Ex VK2AD now ZL2KL Yep, it was the far left tollgate o...

Re: Remote car locks - thieves sniffing for codes
this one did the rounds a year ago, yes its plausible, but just locking the car standing next to it (metal) will ensure any sniffers 200 metres away overlooking the carpark wont hear it. very low powered uhf doesnt propagate well around a carpark full of metal as you know yes there was a utube video...

definately put in a cup of water
microwave ovens need some sort of load, if you run them empty they arc and carry on. hence water solves the problem.
but, the microwave test is good for checking plastics of all types for rf absorbtion
just dont put in anything metal...

Our local radio club , the central west radio group, put in a club submission regarding the matter, and some of us also put in individual submissions, but of the submissions the ACMA received i am sure there were several clubs representing their members. the submissions would then represent a Lot mo...

Re: External battery power source for laptop
have a look at the voltage on the spec sticker on the battery pack Wayne, dont rely on whats written on the charger as that voltage will not be close to your battery pack volts. you can tell if its 3 cell or 4 cell. 3 cell will be about 10 volts, 4 cell will be 13 or 14 volts as they use 18650 cells...

Re: Radiolab/Philips PRF1520
The repeater has been running solar powered for a test run on my mountaintop. it all seems to be going ok , but i did change the link cable for the transmit keyup. using the db25 on the back of the mainframe board results in keyup on carrier detect, but wont allow you to program the tail length with...

Re: Radiolab/Philips PRF1520
today was very successful, I got the unit to forward the transmit audio and did a further tweak up on the cavities. to fix the audio i powered up the transmit exciter pcb externally from the mainframe and applied ptt. next was poking about looking for audio to the vco and setting the jumpers on the ...

Re: Radiolab/Philips PRF1520
more progress, the unit is now keying up and there is a tail which is programmable on a dipswitch, info from the manual. the next job is to port audio across. the secret is using the db25 connector on the back of the mainframe pcb, and jp6 on the mainframe for the audio. you dont need to use a repea...

Re: How do you explain what ham radio is?
I tell people that my hobby is talking to people all around the world. No mobile phone, no call charges, no internet, just raw radio and you make contacts yourself by the freedom of choosing what aerial and frequency you think is best. Whether it be off mountaintops, while driving around touring the...
