Operation of DTMF mic on FT-857
I have 2 FT-857s and an MH-59 DTMF mic. I have setup menu 059 for 'RMT' on both radios; it sends the DTMF codes on one of them and not the other rig. It used to on the 2nd one but suddenly doesn't any more. It seems fairly unlikely that the rig would develop a fault stopping this function. I'm incli...

Re: HK Products Power supply model SPS-200MA
Sorted this one today. It turned out to be a dry joint on a 10UFD 50v electro identified as C17. This C appears to only be used to kick start the SMPS. After it starts it's not used until the next switch on. That made it harder to find as an intermittent. The hardest part was gaining access to the P...

HK Products Power supply model SPS-200MA
Does anyone have a schematic for this device? Mine has developed a fault. I've emailed the manufacturer in Hong Kong and received no reply. It's not mentioned on ModsDK. It was a good performer until it stopped. I suspect the manufacturer is only interested in dealing with big customers.

Re: VK7RAE Beacons
The maintenance work was being done to the site, not to the beacons; it meant disconnecting the power for a few hours. I'll forward VK1KW's suggestion to the beacon owners. All working gain now. Peter

Off air for site maintenance. Down time is unclear at this stage. I'll post updates as available.

Re: VK5 Microwave Road Trip
Hi Iaian, With Hepburn looking reasonably promising for the weekend I'm prepared to set up portable gear on Saturday at QE38ro operating 23cm, maybe 13cm, 9cm and 3cm. It was from this spot I had contacts with VK3ALB on 9 and 3 for the Summer field Day this year. Worth a try if you're going to be in...

Does anyone in VK have one of these? It's a compact dual band 10W FM mobile rig but I'm told it only uses CTCSS on receive, not transmit; this seems incredible. Does anyone know if it's true?

Obtained prog software from 409 shop (supplier of rig) and after finding out which Chinese characters to click on was able to program it quite easily.

Has anyone tried to program this model? A cable came with it but no software. Chirp doesn't mention the model and the UV-5R software won't read it. Prior to buying it, I read on one of the forums that it was programmable with Chirp. I've been unable to find that forum post again. 73, Peter

FT 857 DTMF mike stopped sending
After using it for a couple of years, the MH-59 microphone stopped sending the DTMF tones, in fact, none of the numbered keys would work in any mode. On trying the original MH-31 mike it was discovered the 'down' button would no longer work; this turned out to be a helpful clue because it was discov...

Older FT 100 Circuit diagram
This is the original FT 100 with 3 valves. I have lost the schematic in one of my house moves. Would anyone have one? I'm not aware that Yaesu ever produced a service manual as such. I have never seen it. I have problems with the 2, DP4T relays. A friend would like me to get it going so he can use i...

Non receipt of renewal notice
A couple of weeks ago, a friend (of retirement age) received a letter from ACMA stating that his licence had expired. He rang ACMA and explained that he had not received a renewal notice and would like to pay it. The person he spoke to sounded rather officious and told him it was too late to renew a...

Well photographed too David. If I had one here I'd have tried peering into it too. So why is it depicted differently from all the other beam power tetrodes in the data sheets?

Yes, that's right: a valve! Some of you might even be old enough to have worked on or (dare I say it) even built equipment that used them. My reason for listing it here is to ask if anyone ever pulled a 6AQ5 apart? Something I've been wondering for years is: Is it really a beam power tetrode or is i...

Re: FT 897 birdy as posted by ZL2WHO
I have an FT 857 and 817 and both have spurious responses when trying to receive 45.250 MHz, so this appears to be normal for that series of receivers. No doubt the manufacturer would point out that this frequency is not in an amateur band. It's just a shame that this problem is so close to the visi...
